US tariffs create opening for deeper India–Sri Lanka trade ties, says CEO of John Keells Holdings

India and Sri Lanka have decided to forge closer defence ties. During the historic visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka, both nations signed an MoU on defence cooperation. This is the first time that such an agreement has been signed and this will intensify high level visits between the two nations and also lead to more joint military exercises, capacity building, more port calls and also defence industry cooperation. A total of 10 agreements were signed between the countries, including one on development of Trincomalee as an energy hub in collaboration with UAE.Both sides have also agreed on electricity grid interconnection and for sharing solutions on digital transformation.
